The Two Economies And How To Take Advantage
Heard the news? It is kind of hard to avoid right now.
Word on the street and in all the media is that we are in recession.
People are losing their jobs, economy is slowing down, share market
crash, businesses downgrading profit forecasts and more. You would
think the sky is about to fall in.
It is easy to be
seduced by the constant barrage of media talking down the economy ...
the simple solution is to simply disengage from the media.
Here is the truth ... and I am sure you are probably aware of this but
I wanted to remind you of it ... there is not one single economy. There
are two economies that we all operate in as Small Business owners and
the two are not necessarily linked.
So what are the two economies?
Well the obvious one that the media keep talking about is THE economy.
It is the broader economy that we are all small cogs in. Sure the
broader economy on has taken some hits recently on a global and local
basis and chances are its going to get worse.
There is also
another economy and in my opinion it is the most important economy ...
its the economy in your mind! Its your own personal economy.
You see ... there are many people who get EXCITED when recessions loom.
Recessions can lead to lower interest rates, less competition, more
opportunity. In fact documented history shows us that even during the
great depression many people became wealthy.
How can it be that people became wealthy during the great depression you ask?
Simple ... the great depression is what happened to THE economy ... but
not everyone chose to participate. Many people decided to become more
innovative, become more efficient and productive, develop more
effective marketing solutions, eliminate waste, develop more effective
employees and much more.
The people who see recessionary times as opportunities are those who
understand that their personal economy does not have to reflect THE
economy. It is a mindset that can guide you through the next few years
into greater success.
When all of your competition are cutting costs and pulling back on
their marketing efforts the smart business owners like you and I will
be developing more effective marketing systems to attract even more
clients to us. We will be investing in new knowledge and skills to
become more than we are today. We will be finding the right coach or
consultants to work with in growing our business.
Its just a decision you make.
Here are five things you could be doing right now to take advantage of current situation of THE economy :
1/ Invest in Knowledge, Skills, Strategies & Ideas
- Albert Einstein once said that 'The same thinking that led you to
were you are will not take you were you want to be'. As a small
business owner you need to constantly be investing in the most
important asset in your business ... YOU!
2/ Implement Marketing Systems to Attract More Clients
- Over the last 15 years of economic boom times you did not need to be
good at marketing to do well. Thats all changed ... today you must have
highly effective marketing systems to attract clients to you. If you
don't then you can rest assured your competitors will.
3/ Develop New Product Lines
- Consider your products and services and how you earn your revenue. Is
it time to re-engineer your product mix? One of the things I am doing
personally is developing smarter product / service offerings that
create recurring income. We are doing this byt creating essential
services for our client base.
4/ Eliminate Product Lines That Are Not Profitable
- Now is the time to sack all of the procucts and services that are not
profitable for you. Better to focus on a few products / services that
make profit than have many offereings that do not make you money.
5/ Engage The Services Of A Marketing Coach
- If you are good at what you do in your business but have no clue on
how to market it then you must find and engage the services of a
marketing coach. But not just any marketing coach ... old school
marketing will not work in the new economy. You need to find someone
who understands how to make you and your business highly attractive to
the marketplace.
If you do these five things you will wind up miles ahead of your competitors.
There may be a recession going on right now but personally I am
choosing not to participate this time around. I choose to get better,
stronger, smarter and wealthier than ever before.
